News from the Frontline.....

This section has a monthly focus on an evangelisation initiative currently being run in England and Wales. It's an important way through which we can give thanks to God for the ways in which he is using ordinary people to spread the Good News. We hope that by seeing others taking the initiative in a variety of ways, it'll help to take the understandable fear out of the "E" word for you and your community too.

This month we are featuring: Take and Read Weekends.

Scripture is at the heart of Evangelisation

When St Augustine was on the verge of fully accepting the Christian gospel he heard a voice saying to him: ‘Take and Read! Take and Read!’ It was his reading of a passage from St Paul which led him finally to embrace Christianity. It is no surprise therefore that the words ‘Take and Read’ have been adopted for a new programme of resources and training for Catholic Bible group leaders.

In the wake of the teaching document of the English, Welsh and Scottish Bishops, The Gift of Scripture, the ‘Take and Read’ series of books for group reading of the gospels is being produced under the leadership of Fr Adrian Graffy, the director of evangelisation in Brentwood Diocese. Fr Adrian and Anne Dixon are also running ‘Take and Read Weekends’.

The weekends include a Bible quiz, input on the Church’s teaching on the Bible, a chance to run a Bible group session and much more besides. With the approach of the Rome Synod of Bishops on the Bible in 2008 more and more interest is anticipated.
